Am I eligible?

We aim to make things easy and to keep you informed of your progress every step of the way, from the moment you apply to the receipt of your prescription(s).

Healthcare processes can vary depending on where and how you access your care. When medical cannabis treatment is delivered to your home, it’s natural to have questions about how the process works.

This guide explains what happens after your appointment, from prescription approval through to delivery, so you know what to expect at each step.

At a Glance

  • Curaleaf Clinic manages your consultations, prescriptions, and ongoing care, but does not deliver medication directly.
  • Once approved, your prescription is securely sent to your chosen dispensing pharmacy, which manages payment, packaging, and delivery or collection.
  • Delivery times and postage costs are set by the dispensing pharmacy and may vary depending on product availability, courier choice, and location.
  • You can track the status of your prescription through your Curaleaf Clinic online account as it moves through each stage of the process.

Your Medical Cannabis Consultation and Approval

Medical cannabis is only considered following an assessment with a specialist doctor. During your consultation at Curaleaf Clinic, your clinician will review your medical history, current symptoms, and previous treatments to determine whether medical cannabis may be appropriate.

After your appointment, your case is reviewed by a multidisciplinary team (MDT). This means more than one clinician carefully considers the information provided before any prescription can be issued.

The outcome of that meeting must be that medical cannabis is considered a suitable option for you. You’ll be notified of the MDT’s decision by email and, if your treatment is approved, the prescription discussed during your consultation will be issued.

What Happens After Your Prescription Is Issued?

Once your prescription has been issued:

  • It will appear in your Curaleaf Clinic online account under ‘Prescriptions’
  • Your prescription letter will also be available in your account for reference
  • The original physical prescription is prepared for secure dispatch to your chosen pharmacy

Medical cannabis prescriptions are classed as controlled medications, meaning they’re subject to stricter regulations than many standard prescriptions. These regulations affect how prescriptions are written, sent to pharmacies, and dispensed, helping to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.

How Medical Cannabis Delivery Works at Curaleaf Clinic?

1. Manage your prescription in your online account

All prescriptions and repeat requests are managed through your Curaleaf Clinic online account. From here, you can:

  • View current and previous prescriptions
  • Request a repeat prescription
  • Track the status of your prescription as it’s processed

When requesting a prescription, you’ll choose which pharmacy it’s sent to. This is also when you decide whether you’d like home delivery or, where available, to collect your medication from a local pharmacy.

Once a repeat request is approved, the prescription is issued and the original paper copy is sent to your chosen pharmacy.

At this point, the pharmacy takes over the dispensing and delivery process. Curaleaf Clinic does not deliver medication directly. Delivery or collection is managed by the dispensing pharmacy.

You’ll still be able to track progress in your online account, with status updates as your prescription moves through each stage.

2. Your prescription is sent to the pharmacy

By law, pharmacies must receive the original paper prescription before they can dispense medical cannabis. This is different from many other prescriptions, which can be sent electronically. Scanned or digital copies cannot be accepted for medical cannabis.

Your prescription includes a date of issue and must be dispensed within 28 days. If it expires, you’ll need to request a new prescription through your account.

Product availability

Because medical cannabis is derived from a living crop, availability can sometimes fluctuate due to growing and supply factors. If a prescribed product is temporarily unavailable, you’ll be notified through your account and guided to select an appropriate alternative in line with your clinician’s recommendations.

3. Pay for your medication

Once your chosen pharmacy receives the prescription, they’ll contact you directly with a secure payment link so you can pay for your medication.

4. Delivery or pharmacy collection

After payment:

  • Your medication is prepared and securely packaged by the pharmacy
  • If you’ve chosen home delivery, the pharmacy’s courier will deliver it to your address
  • If you’ve chosen pharmacy collection, your medication will be made available for collection from that pharmacy
  • You’ll receive tracking details so you can see when your medication is ready or on its way.

5. Planning ahead for repeat prescriptions

To avoid running out of medication, patients can request their prescription from 14 days prior to when they may run out.

If you’re unsure whether you need a follow-up appointment or can request a repeat directly, our patient support team is here to help.

Summary

Once your prescription has been issued, your medication is prepared and delivered through a clear, regulated process involving your chosen pharmacy. Using your online account and planning ahead for repeat prescriptions can help keep your treatment running smoothly.

If you have questions about appointments, prescriptions, or your account, our Curaleaf Clinic patient support team is here to help. For delivery or collection queries, your dispensing pharmacy will be best placed to assist.
