Sapphire Medical Clinics Researchers Win Award for Medical Cannabis Research

The Japanese Society of Neuropsychopharmacology has today (12th December 2022) awarded the Topic Award 2022 to Sapphire Medical Clinics researchers for their study assessing the outcomes of patients enrolled on the UK Medical Cannabis Registry. The research was originally published in May 2021 in the prestigious journal ‘Neuropsychopharmacology Reports’1.

The UK Medical Cannabis Registry is the largest such database in the UK and was set up by clinicians at Sapphire Medical Clinics. Patients who sign up to the Curaleaf Access Scheme are enrolled in the Registry, as well as accessing discounted clinic appointments (£50 per appointment), helping to contribute to the available real-world evidence on the outcomes of people prescribed medical cannabis for chronic health conditions.

This award adds to those already received in relation to the Curaleaf Access Scheme, with Sapphire Medical Clinics winning the ‘Bringing Treatment to the Masses’ award from Canex earlier in 2022 for the scheme.

Dr Simon Erridge, Head of Research and Access at Sapphire Medical Clinics, commented on the award, “We are delighted to have received this award, which goes a small way to validating the quality of research that we are producing to help improve the evidence base on medical cannabis. We would like to thank the Japanese Society of Neuropsychopharmacology for the award, but more importantly we would like to thank all patients who contribute to the UK Medical Cannabis Registry, because ultimately without them this work wouldn’t be possible.”
